The language. The metaphors. The humor! All in combination, made Long Division by Kiese Laymon my most entertaining read of 2021.
It wasn't absent of thought-provoking narratives, but the witty dialogue is what got me. The characters described so impeccably that you could see them, and the use of elements that reinforced all of this— magical realism, time travel; the fact that this book was presented in two parts that required the reader to flip it over, are all things that made Long Division my favorite and most entertaining read of the year. #holidaygiftguide
