EVANGELINE LAWSON
Curator of Art & Culture
Evangeline the Photographist
The first camera I had was one of those rectangular Instamatic cameras that used the 110 film. I would carry it everywhere–on field trips around the city, snapping pictures of old missions, relics and landmarks. The photos were never quite clear, but as a child, I loved to capture memories.
In sixth grade I was lucky enough to take my first photography class using a standard 35mm and shot my first images of people in black and white.
The camera may have evolved over the years, but I see photography as an extension of my love of storytelling.
Portrait and landscape photography is my sweet spot, but my artistic expression is fluid. I tend to follow where the spirit leads, but seek to capture natural beauty in all of its forms, while preserving the culture for posterity.
